This past weekend, our club proudly supported a community BBQ in partnership with a charity dedicated to counselling construction industry workers affected by bullying and suicide. The charity is “I Got You”, named in memory of a young man who ended his life too soon. While the sausages and cold drinks were enjoyed by all, the true impact of the event went far beyond the picnic tables.
Gathered in the park, friends, families, and charity participants discovered more than just a meal—they found connection. Conversations flowed freely, barriers were broken down, and a sense of belonging grew stronger with each shared story. For many working in high-pressure, male-dominated environments, the chance to speak openly in a relaxed, supportive setting was a meaningful reminder that they are not alone.
Our role might have been to donate the food and serve with a smile, but what we helped create was an atmosphere of fellowship and care. The impact was clear: laughter returned to faces, new friendships were sparked, and those carrying heavy burdens found a community ready to listen and support.
As Rotarians, we understand that service isn’t just about what we give—it’s about the connections we forge and the lives we touch. This BBQ was a small act of service that left a lasting impression of hope and kindness.
